Following a short rain delay, construction crews have begun construction of the pedestrian tunnel near Lake Grace. This week's work will consist of excavating and grading, or moving dirt, to make room for the new structure under the highway, as well as constructing the tunnel foundation. Crews will build it on-site, while other pre-assembled pieces will come to the project site by truck. The tunnel floor will feature a layer of asphalt over concrete so there's a seamless trail connection on both sides of the structure.
Truck hauling through mid-July
You may notice an increase in trucks coming to/from the project site over the next several weeks to haul away excess materials. Please note that the truck route includes Highway 41, Hundertmark Rd. and Pioneer Trail. The contractor's trucks are not cutting through the local neighborhoods. Keep in mind other public and private construction projects are also occurring in the area. We do not know their routes.
Please remember to pay attention to your surroundings at Hundertmark Rd. and Pioneer Trail on Highway 41. Watch for trucks entering and exiting the project area, as well as pedestrians and bicyclists crossing these intersections.
